Improper food storage, bear activity prompts closure of Chuckey campground

Neighborhood damage by black bears can be kept to a minimum with some simple tips.

A campground in a section of the Cherokee National Forest in Greene County was closed Tuesday because of a combination of unsafe food storage practices by visitors and increased bear activity in the area.

The U.S. Forest Service closed the Horse Creek Campground on a recommendation from the Tennessee Wildlife Resources agency after noticing cases of "food storage non-compliance."
