St. Cloud Woman Charged for Allegedly Beating Toddler With Clothes Hanger

May 31, 2023

(KNSI) — A 23-year-old St. Cloud woman is facing felony charges after allegedly hitting a three-year-old with a clothes hanger.

According to the criminal complaint, police were called to a home on the 300 block of 7th Avenue South for a report of suspected child abuse. The caller said their grandchild returned from their mother's house with "concerning red welts" on the lower back. Investigators examined the marks and determined they came from a plastic hanger. The marks matched up with plastic hangers the child's family used.

Police say the child identified their mother's fiancé, 23-year-old Raslyn Evans as the person who hit her. Evans and the child's mother live together with the child at a home on the 700 block of 5th Street South in St. Cloud but have an informal parenting agreement with the child's grandmother. Evans was convicted of domestic violence in the last ten years. Human Services filed a petition alleging the child to be "in need of protection and services."

Stearns County Judge Sarah Hennesy set unconditional bail at $5,000. Evans is due back in court on April 13th.
