Not all cutting boards are created equal. As someone who cooks daily, I have at least four or five cutting boards in circulation, because different tasks require different kinds of boards. The centerpiece of my kitchen is a huge, heavy John Boos wooden board that I use for big tasks like carving turkeys and chickens. My daily board for basic slicing and dicing is an end-grain acacia board from Ironwood Gourmet, which is light, super sturdy, and very handsome. There’s also an excellent San Jamar plastic board in the mix, which I love because it’s got super grippy edges and never moves around. (Plus, many argue that plastic boards are better for your knives.) I also have a small board from Material that I bring out when I just need to cut a lemon or prepare a cocktail. I thought my cutting board game was pretty solid — but a new addition has made me question things.
Enter Great Jones’ new All Aboard plastic cutting board, which has features I never thought I needed but have come to really enjoy.

The best thing about this cutting board is its build: It has a handle that allows you to easily pick up the board with one hand. This is an absolutely awesome feature when you’re trying to dump a bunch of diced veggies into a pan or carry an assortment of scraps to your compost bucket. Seriously, if you cook a lot, you definitely know the balancing act of trying to get a ton of minced garlic onto the blade of your knife to move it to the stove or seeing whether you can pick up all the chopped kale with both hands. With the All Aboard, just grab the board with one hand, walk to your pan, Dutch oven, trash can, or bowl, and a quick swipe will clear the surface.
This board has a textured surface, so it’s slightly grippy and doesn’t let produce slide around much. Cutting lemons and onions can be a slippery endeavor if you’re not careful, but this board, in Great Jones’ words, “isn’t a Slip ‘N Slide.”
Even beyond those attributes, this is no boring, run-of-the-mill plastic board — it’s made of non-porous, BPA-free plastic and comes in two vibrant colors: “Blueberry” and “Broccoli.” At 12 x 16 inches and about half an inch thick, it feels sturdy and offers enough space to cut multiple things comfortably. Last night, for example, I cut two onions, a preserved lemon, and some parsley. I had enough space left over to grate some garlic into a small ramekin at the edge. And speaking of the edge, this board has a juice groove that goes all the way around it, catching runaway liquids and preventing them from leaking onto your counter. It’s a cool feature that’s actually quite useful when cutting items like the aforementioned preserved lemon, which contains a ton of juice that can’t wait to escape as soon as your knife provides an opportunity.

Great Jones is known for its sturdy, vibrant kitchen gear, which often looks like it was lifted out of a Wes Anderson movie. The All Aboard cutting board is no exception — its colorful, cute design is paired with practical, dependable craftsmanship. It’s a smartly designed kitchen tool that will be an excellent addition to your kitchen whether you have ten cutting boards or are looking for your first. And at only $60, it’s a great investment.
At the time of publication, the price was $60.
